Generic New Goals List For 2010...

I guess this is what every poker player does who is half way serious about the game. My original goals have somewhat been thrown out of the windows seeing that I don’t really play on Poker stars anymore. I was originally also satisfied with getting to a certain level and grinding it and then going back to tournaments.

That’s all kind of changed now. I don’t really see any reason to give poker my time and energy unless its everything I got. I want to be on top. Yeah, I know you’ve heard that one before. For every few thousand people who state this claim they burn out and crash. I guess I could tell you I’m different but it wouldn’t really make do much. All I can do is state it and then show you the results.

I’m taking a lot of heat from my family at the moment but the bottom line is no one knows whats good for me except me. I found something in poker I’m willing to put forth all my effort, something that I enjoy and love, something that will give me the freedom to branch out into other things. I won’t fold under any amount of pressure this time. I’ve done that too many times in the past, listened to what other people thinks best for me and failed miserably. This time I’m going to listen to my gut, my heart and just dive head first into it.

I guess it’s true when they say the people closest to you hate on you the most. Well, I guess they didn’t say it but Chamillionaire did in his song creepin.

I read a lot of books up until recently really. I picked up a book a couple years ago called Change or Die. Haha, somewhat straight forward right? Well, you should all give it a read. It’s a good book written by a social psychologist if I remember correctly. I don’t remember the author but google it or something.

The summary of the book is this: People want to change, they are told to change but they don’t? Why not? Well there are a lot of reasons why people don’t change but I won’t go into that. The message I took from the book is that a belief in someone instills hope which then leads to a change. So, basically, when you want to do something and people sit there and doubt you constantly is deflates you. I know you’ve all been there before. I know everyone who has ever made it in this game has been there too.

The process of change has many different variables. Examples used in the book is drug addicts, disgruntled workers and ex convicts amongst others. All these groups demonstrated a significant amount of change due to being treated differently.

If you listen to someone say “no” or “you can’t do it” for so long eventually its human nature to believe it. I mean, look at the most successful people in poker or for that matter in anything else. The most successful people were innovators, creative thinkers and usually way ahead of their time. They were the trail blazers and everyone else followed. They ignored what other told them to a certain degree and just listened to their gut and themselves instead of “no”. They didn’t make excuses such as I can’t or I don’t have enough money. They just went out and took it. They proved everyone wrong.

That is precisely what I’m going to do. So without rambling on any longer here is my list of goals for 2010 that I will achieve OGBT (or go broke trying)!!

1.Beat 200NL FR for 7PtBB’s per
2.Move up to 400NL and become a regular
3.Take down my first large tournament score 20K+
4.Financially sustain my lifestyle purely from poker
5.Turn 6 figures in profit by December 2010
6.Start studying PLO extensively midway through the year.
7.Buy an apartment or condominium
8.Pay off student loans
9.Become a winning live 5/10 player
10.Take down a live tournament over 20K+
11.Put in 10 hours a week of studying
12.Take out a stack of cash and make it rain on all my haters!!!!

In no particular order but naturally I must achieve the first goal to move on to some of the others.

The End
