Back To The Trap House

The last week of school is finally here. If things go as planned, which they never really do, I will never set foot on a college campus unless its to creepily hit on girls way younger than me…..

No, I’m not graduating, just retiring from 4 and a half years of something I have hated since middle school. You could call me stupid, like my now ex gf, for quitting with just 2 semesters left. Or you could call me crazy for jumping into something without the safety net we call a degree.

Whatever anyone calls me I really don’t care. If everyone thinks I’m doing something wrong then I must be doing something right!!

Now, on to poker. After vigorously working with my coach/backer since early August. Watching several hours of DC videos. Taking notes, reviewing notes and putting in hours at the table I have fallen short of some goals.

I personally wanted to be playing 200NL regularly and game selecting 400NL games by now. Well, after playing 25NL, moving up to 50NL and then to 100NL I am back down to 50NL. The reason being we have discovered a huge leak in my game. While I can successfully execute what I call the front end of my game I am having difficulty with the back end.

When I refer to the front end of my game I am talking about Isolating fish, raising the button, value betting, barreling, semi bluffing, check raising, etc.

The back end of my game is folding, avoiding marginal situations, making big or small lay downs, not giving people enough credit, making marginal calls because a player is inferior then me, etc.

I like to refer to it as the offense and the defense. I am bleeding away a lot of money on the defensive side, making lots of negative EV decisions.

So basically at this point I have to be crushing the stakes I am at otherwise I am not allowed to move up in limits. It’s a minor set back indeed but I think ultimately it will give me tons of confidence to crush the level I am at and then move on.

I’m really not that far off either because 100NL and 50NL are basically the same IMO. So , as soon as I can crush 50NL then I should be able to do the same at 100NL. Once at 200NL I can actually make a decent living and then like I originally planned, game select 400NL games!

This is a very exciting yet scary time in my life. I am finally taking to the plunge and going after something I truly do love. On the other end it’s scary in that it’s a huge lifestyle change, HUGE. I’d rather keep the details of how risky this is in the dark at the moment but one day when I am a winning successful player I will reveal it all.

As I mentioned in a previous blog I have been through more than most have been through in their lifetime as far as stress. Compared to what I have been through everything else seems minuscule.

Whats the worse that could happen? This isn’t going to make or break me as a person, it’s only going to make me a stronger person in the long run!
