Sesh one
Session one went pretty good. You may be able to tell I only posted the first blog probably two hours ago and there is good reason for that. The game broke. I will probably play up until 20/40 at the California Grand Casino because its only like 5-10 minutes from my house. After that I will play 20/40 at bay 101(45 min to an hour from my house). 30/60 at the Oaks Card Club which is like 20 minutes from my house. The rest of the play will be at bay 101 or garden city. Most of this is because those are the stakes they have and I naturally have to play at each establishment but 6/12-15/30 I have my choice and the closeness is really why I am choosing the Grand.
The session today went very well as far as profits go. I only played about 90 minutes and made about 300 dollars which is great for the first day. Playing 6/12 is pretty hard for me because I am rolled for 40/80 now but part of this challenge is to discipline myself and this will definitely put me to the test. I think I will feel fine playing 15/30 and up but 6/12 is much lower then I would normally play online so its a test.
A funny story about today… I tend to think I run alot worst than people do not in the profits department but just general poker shenanagins going on at the poker table. In Atlantic City this happened all the time. I had a guy muck the best hand in >1k pot and they let him pull his cards of the muck and showdown the winner. I had some guy knock over my chips not once but twice and apologize neither of the times. And that same guy tried to muck my hand when I was tipping the wattress and check my racks when I was selling chips to a guy just sitting down. He said I stiffed the guy one chip(which I don’t know but I paid the chip anyways). Well anyways today was going normal we were in a 4 handed game until this big intimidating black man sat down. I am by no means racist but just think of Lawrence Taylor which some shades and a bluetooth headset and you will get generally the right idea. Well he buys in for 100 dollars which is about half of a rack. We get into a pot threeways where he flops top pair and check raises the field out of position. Turn comes an overcard ace and it checks around. River comes a king and it checks to me and I bet and everyone folds. He is visable upset about the two overcards coming and needs to rationalize his play the other players. I am just listening to my headphones so I do not get involved. The next and interesting hand comes when I basically valuebet AT on an AKxxJ board and he gets pissed and throws his cards at me. They hit me right in the hand it was mayhem. The floorman said something to him which I didn’t catch because of my music. I then ask the dealer to chop up my 2 dollar chips and give me one back for her tip. This just throws him right off the handle and I get berated for about 5 minutes. I am sorry sir but my hourly is not nearly high enough to justify tipping 2 dollars in this game. I play 40/80 all the time and no one tips more than a dollar if that. And I am not going to pay 1/6 of a big bet everytime I win a pot.
But anyways I didn’t smoke at the carddroom which is good and I am about to read some after I finish this blog post. Another goal I wanted to have was to play between 4-10 hour sessions everytime but firstly I do not think that is a good idea for my hourly. I would be putting in sessions when I think I should be standing up and I believe one of my best attributes live is I can quit the session stuck. Secondly stuff happens like today which is out of my control where the game breaks. I will consider playing lower but all they had was 3/6 but 6/12 is unbeatable enough as it is. But I will add that bets won at a lower limit count towards the limit I am trying to beat at that time. But bets won at a higher limit are subtracted. The reason for this is this challenge is not to win the most money. It is to challenge myself to enjoy playing poker and putting in the time through the limits to become the best player I can.
Until next time
