Pitiful display at a live game, bad play and card dead

Well I just got back from a game at my local and I can’t say I played too well at all. I was cards dead for most but played a few keys hands just terribly.
One of the first hands I played I get lucky enough to limp in on the button with 10 9o. Flop is the most beutiful sight in the world of 876rainbow. Early position raised just under the pot, it’s folded to me and I opt to reraise. I really should have called but the excitment got to me, nethertheless he folded his lower straight draw and I took in a small pot.
Later on after having no cards I wake up with AKo to a small raise from a pretty loose player who’s been winning several pots in a row, I opt to just call. Dumb mistake as I have position and on a flop of 525 I don’t think I’m behind but yet I fold to his huge overbet.
Terrible terrible play, eventually bust out with no worthy cards for an hour or so. Just not happy with my play, even if I was card dead for the majority I could have played so much better.
Note to future self: Must play better.

One day down and wow

In a word…awesome

Ok that’d make for a boring blog, let’s talk for a while.
After just one day on DC I am noticing a huge change in the way I think about the game and, as a result, the way I play the game.
Today I took as a day to learn. I’ve watched various videos with various subjects. Mainly full ring games, tips on the HEM and just general poker advice. My early favorite have been from DJ Sensei & WiltOnTilt but all videos have taught me something or got me thinking. I also enjoyed WhiteHeatSYD advice, on the forums and the real life grinder videos, about keeping yourself in good shape, this is great advice which is much overlooked. Keeping yourself fresh, in shape and engergised keeps you more alert for those long sessions at the felt.
I’ve chosen Full Tilt as my site of choice for monitoring my DC progress. My history on that site is one I wish to change, I went bust on it a few weeks back, directly because I went on tilt after a bad day, but I like the number of games and in my opinion the software is the nuts. (as a side note if anyone can tell me how I can mod my own table on the new full tilt site I’d send you lots of poker positivity your way). I’m happily up after a couple of hours just really trying out new things and way’s of thinking. There were hands I noticed just yesterday I would have played totally different and most suprising hands I would never have bothered playing but did today due to my new found info, both of which turned to be profitable (one memorable hand of playing Ax would have flopped me a lovely FH only for the villian to have AA, thanks god I learned).

All in all it’s been a positive day for me, I’ve not played a lot but I feel I’ve learned a lot especially from my own session reviews.

PO y’all

...and so it begins

After a few weeks of thought I finally decided to take the plunge and join a poker tutoring site.
Reasons are many but all boil down to one thing. I want to win more.
I’ve been playing poker for maybe 4-5 years with varying degrees of success. My largest cash in a tournament came mere months after I learned the basics of the game and since then I’ve steadily been a winning player. I play on various sites, in various live games and have a monthly league with a bunch of local players which I enjoy but as yet am yet to win a league, bubbling on the prize places more often than not.
Suffice to say I’m probably just an average player but I want this to change, I love the game and its many variants and I think I’m a fairly solid player. I know my weaknesses and try my best to disguise these and from what I know it seem’s I’ve done a good job as they havn’t been picked up.
I’m here to learn, win and learn some more.
Hopefull I’ll chart my progress, good and bad, here.
See you at the tables
