played alot today but had some bad results, ran what i still consider to be a great bluff but the guy made an equally great call, i dont know.. anyway, another few standard spewy spots from me resulted in 3bi loss for today, thats variance and thats a big part of poker i suppose. I didnt table select very well today either, so im going to start using table scanner again, its too good not too use it.. heres the graphy:

15

I’m still happy about how my redline has been hovering around breakeven for the whole time, which is hard to do at micro stakes due to the love of calling people have in general, now need to work on my consistency with my big pots at showdown, some times i play like a monkey and I know it even during the hand, need to get a coach again but honestly they are expensive.. i’ll get working with my secret HQ group more, and less chatter about beers and girls in the thai group and more poker until we’re all out there!

In other news I joined a gym today for a month, going to go every day, swim and sauna and cycle there and back, that will keep me in relatively good nic til i head out..

here’s some hands, good, bad and ugly:

day 13

I’m discovering that life with poker as the only income has a way of making you lazy. I woke up at 2pm today, wtf! I’ve just played about an hour and a half today and since I’m going to my mates for a meal its going to be all I play today!

Here’s the graphy:
day13
here are some hands I think were alittle awkward (which resulted in the big redline/greenline dip about 100 hands in):
Prima Network $40.00 No Limit Hold’em – 6 players – View hand 396565

BB: $42.00

UTG: $51.09

MP: $35.60

CO: $34.72

Hero (BTN): $40.00

SB: $51.66

Pre Flop: ($0.60) Hero is BTN with J of spades K of spades

3 folds, Hero raises to $1.20, 1 fold, BB raises to $4, Hero calls $2.80

Flop: ($8.20) 7 of spades T of clubs K of hearts (2 players)

BB bets $6.00, Hero calls $6

Turn: ($20.20) T of hearts (2 players)

BB bets $13.20, Hero calls $13.20

River: ($46.60) 2 of hearts (2 players)

BB bets $18.40, Hero folds
I dont mind this actually as folding turn might be abit too weak tight

..Prima Network $40.00 No Limit Hold’em – 6 players – View hand 396577

The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

BTN: $80.93

SB: $38.89

BB: $17.18

Hero (UTG): $48.52

MP: $47.41

CO: $7.40

Pre Flop: ($0.60) Hero is UTG with Q of diamonds Q of spades

Hero raises to $1.60, MP calls $1.60, 1 fold, BTN calls $1.60, SB calls $1.40, BB calls $1.20

Flop: ($8.00) 3 of clubs 5 of diamonds 6 of clubs (5 players)

SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $6.80, MP folds, BTN folds, SB raises to $17.60, BB folds, Hero folds

and looking back at this its a standard fold. I guess I was just annoyed because they happened so close together!

I’m grateful for how nice this laptop is and I can’t wait for how good thailand is going to be, the sun the CHANG the womens the poker! its going to be epic

:)

day 12

  1. played poker
  2. won some monies, but played bad in a few hands I will list
  3. got my thai pocket guide “instant thai”

here’s the thai book:

Photo0071

here’s the graphy:

day12

here are some hand i had trouble with, either misplayed, overplayed, or didn’t think about well:

Prima Network $40.00 No Limit Hold’em – 4 players – View hand 395607

Hero (CO): $43.21

BTN: $43.99

SB: $37.75

BB: $79.50

Pre Flop: ($0.60) Hero is CO with J of hearts J of clubs

Hero raises to $1.60, 1 fold, SB raises to $4, 1 fold, Hero calls $2.40

Flop: ($8.40) 7 of spades 9 of hearts 9 of spades (2 players)

SB bets $4.40, Hero calls $4.40

Turn: ($17.20) 7 of hearts (2 players)

SB checks, Hero bets $8.40, SB calls $8.40

River: ($34.00) 5 of clubs (2 players)

SB bets $16.80, Hero calls $16.80

In this hand both our ranges are pretty polarized to strong hands or total bluffs, but considering villain knows I have a strong hand alot and he knows I percieve him to have a strong hand and he STILL chooses to bet the river I should have found the fold button, instead I tried to be too optimistic and called hoping he had some kind of Ace high or missed suited broadway, maybe even TT – but again, this was wishful thinking and I should have found a fold..

Prima Network $40.00 No Limit Hold’em – 6 players – View hand 395611

Pre Flop: ($0.60) Hero is CO with A of hearts Q of spades

Turn: ($30.20) 2 of spades (2 players)

UTG checks, Hero bets $26.00, UTG calls $26

River: ($82 .20) 3 of diamonds (2 players)
Looking back on this hand now I dont mind this whatsoever, I sized the flop re-raise to get a less than pot sized shove on any good turn, and the 2 of spades is the blankest of blanks… he had QJhh and I didnt improve, nh sir

River: ($33.20) 7 of spades (2 players)

Hero bets $16.80, BTN raises to $32.18, Hero calls $9.62 all in

This hand I am particularly annoyed about because I had unchecked all the auto-post blinds and was preparing to end my session! Then I got stubborn and didnt want to believe he had better than TPTK. Looking back I should have bet a little bigger on the flop and bet folded the turn.. or check/folded the river if my turn bet is called. I also don’t mind just checking the flop because these types of flops always end up giving me trouble with big overcards, and since these low suited connected flops hit the preflop callers range a ton more than the preflop raiser it would make sense to just check/fold.. sigh, €40 i will never see again!

Hero checks, CO bets $4.80, BTN calls $4.80, Hero raises to $38.21, CO folds, BTN folds

Here I think my mistake was overplaying my hand. I didnt know which betsize to make on this turn so I opted to go for a check raise, however, when it got back to me I felt like all my raises would make my hand so obviously transparent that if I made a smallish raise I would probably nice them in correctly, and then only pay off a bet on the river if they have trips beat. Looking back on this I can see that either a turn barrel in which i get to set my own price and also build a pot while still keeping in draws, or a very very cheeky c/r to $12.80, either of these options are far superior to the c/r shove, as this line is either the effective nuts (my actual hand) or a flush draw playing badly (their most likely hands).. lesson in here somewhere, please post your line if you’ve got any ideas

Finally, a hand I think I played really well..

here i have the nuts and can do no wrong letting this aggressive villain hand himself. BTW there was alot of pausing and timing down from both of us, meaning we both either had very bad hands or very good ones, he was banking on the fact I had a bad one, clearly :)

Tomorrow I’ll be grinding all day as its SUPER SUNDAY where all the donks come out to play.. Yeah boi

oh and someone asked my why 40nl€? well, my simple answer is im over rolled for it, can play very comfortably there and also 40€ is just over $60USD right now, so its a good option imo :P

IRL stuff today was dull bcos ive been feeling under the weather, had two invites out drinking but needless to say I couldn’t accept sadly, hopefully tomorrow evening will be good to get on the Pub Quiz

day 11

didnt update this in nearly a week but ive been pretty lazy and kinda busy

Last weekend went to my cousin’s birthday in sheffielf for pub golf, i never really done pub golf but ive done alot of drinking in my time so i was well up for it, he’d arranged score cards and everything. my brother was so bad at drinking it was unreal, heres the scorecard with me on the left and him on the right:

ended up @ 02 in sheff and then somehow we all get got chucked out at about 2am, it was a funny night, woke up next morning in full pub golf wear from the previous night and got onto an english breakfast to help nurse the hangover. Stayed again next day and night and chilled at my bros house playing wii all afternoon then went round my cousins house in the night and watched rick james on youtube with a few joints. Then went back to york and worked my final shift on the sunday at that was fucking liberating!

next day i didnt play any pokers instead just started to plan my trip to thailand abit clearer. I started looking online for flights, and getting the general consensus from the thailand group as to when everyone was thinking of leaving. I went to a couple of travel agents on the hight street but they seemed to have no available flights for new year time, so i gave up for a couple of days.

Next day I went to PCworld and bought myself a lovely laptop Acer Aspire Timeline 5810T with 4GB ddr3 ram, 500GB hd, and some gfx card which will play most stuff. I’m typing away on this now and I can say I’m very pleased with it, and windows 7 is pretty good. I can actually DO STUFF on this laptop without it having a brain freeze every 10mins like my old desktop, but to be fair to my last pc it was nearly 5 years old!

While the battery was charging on the new laptop i spent that night round my mates house who cooked an absolutely fucking fabulous duck with sweet potatoe and swede mash, roast potatoes and carrots with some immense gravyserved with about 3 bottles of wine, a bottle of port, and 14 beers and ales between us! epic.

The next day after that I woke up looked on expedia and decided to book my flights – I got a 1 way direct flight from London on the 7th Jan arriving in Bkk @ just before 4pm on the 8th! The flights were pretty much perfect as it was under £400 and landing only 30minutes after Arnaud from france who will be living out in Thailand with me !

Yesterday I went and got my Visa from the Royal Thai Consulate in Hull, which was £110 and allows me to stay in thailand for a year with multiple re-entry :) stoked

so, now its time to get serious and start grinding for the next 6 weeks before I fly out. Thankfully ladbrokes have added some 40nl €uro tables which is nice to break up the 50nl €uro games from swings, and they play more similar to 20nl in the good way that 50nl plays more similar to 100nl if that makes sense?

anyways, im lookin fwd to getting back into playing properly again now, as opposed to last night when i just bought several bottles of Badger Ale from the local shop and pissed around playing 2nl shoving all in for 20mins until I got bored. -$47 later I thought i had enriched the nanostakes players sufficiently and called it a night..

today, played about 40mins so far and up €20, need to put more hands in before the end of the month so im gona play a 3 hour session tonight, i was captivated by this video all day, it was great. after i watched that i wanted to go experience nature so off i went on a run, and now inspired enough to write this, and here we are..

see you tomor

day 4

hi guys, wasup

as I said yesterday, no poker for me today, but i thought I might mention one of the first and best online poker books i’ve ever read – you may have heard of BillyJex, he was one of the guys who first learned how to CRUSH online 6max games, and then he went and wrote a COMPREHENSIVE guide on how he did it! This guide is a steal when you think of how much the other ebooks on the market are in comparison – $97, $100, €400, $750, $950, $5000! – Billy’s book is only $50!

Check it out here

I’m going to Sheffield to party tonight, ill b back tomorro with something other than a poker update..

day 1

I woke up this morning with the door bell ringing in my ears. The electrician was round to change something with the fuse box. He did his thing while I had some healthy breakfast, porridge oats with raisins.

After he was done I strolled down to work and handed in my notice, oh yes that was a good feeling!

Then i went to the shop and got a Fiji apple. These apples are something else, let me tell you. Best apples going. Delicious, I’m going to make it a daily ritual to walk over the hill, round the corner and into Morrison and get myself one of these bad boys.

I got home and had some green tea and took my supplements, rhodiola and some multivitamins, then turned on the PC and started running Table Scanner.

This was the first session I had used table scanner and it seemed to say there were alot of good tables going, so I 6 tabled. However, I’m not so sure on their scoring system because they seemed to be just tight 20/18 and 16/14 guys at all tables with no real droolers. Anyway the session went well and I took a break around 600 hands in. Got some lunch, some nice pasta and mixed vegetable beans, then messed around on Skype and DC for a while.

Second session I followed the same protocol, just loading HEM and running the table scanner, signing up for a bunch of waiting lists. When I got playing the tables were a bit better overall than earlier but pretty similar. Grinded out a win and then quit around 600 hands in again.

aside from poker I have some other commitments I made to myself, like putting in an hour every day on my online TEFL modules and also reading a bit of Baluga’s book every day. Success on both counts. Then had some porkchops for tea which were lovely and went to play Basketball for York seniors vs Leeds mens.

The game was good where we held a slight lead all the way up until the midway of the third quarter, where I got totally gassed and couldnt keep up to game speed anymore, we also changed from man to 2front3back zone, which was a poor choice instead we should have had 3front2back as they had one guy who nailed 6 three pointers that quarter. Alas we lost by around 20 points in the end, but it was cool anyway I like the exercise.

Got back had nice shower, then played the last session. Ran like hell. Happy with MOST of the decisions I made though, wouldnt have changed much except for 1 or 2 hands I overplayed. Ended the day terribly, but that’s the way the month has been going overall, running 11 bi under EV in the last 10k hands. which is fun. But like CHUCK NORRIS – YOU GOTTA GET TOUGHER!

Here’s my graph for today, I will post my graph every day i think:

And here’s the hands i thought were in some way interesting:

infact no im not going to post a load of beats

See you tomorro, i’ll be waking up and going to get me a Fiji apple!

56 days til freedom: day 0

In just over 8 weeks time I will be leaving my home of York, England to live in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I will be teaching English over there as my profession. Until then I am stuck in England for the next 8 weeks, more rain, snow, and cold is certain, but I’m sure I can spend my time more productively than just looking forwards to getting on the plane out east.

So, what am I going to do until then?

Well, for one, quit my job. I work (soon to be worked) part time 15hrs a week in a well known high street book maker. It’s a complete joke. Understanding stuff like positive and negative expectation gambling (ie. poker vs every other form of gambling) it kind of life tilts me to see these delusional people (95% of the people who walk through the door) literally wasting their lives believing that some kind of a “system” will save them from their miserable existence and turn them into winners. At least I get to watch the football. Anyway, I’m handing in my notice tomorrow, and then day 1 officially begins…

Secondly, but most importantly, I’m going to grind out poker like never before. I want to play 100,000 hands in the next 56 days, for just under 1.8k hands a day. That will mean 6 hours of my usual 4 tabling play, so I have to decide how many sessions I want to have and how best to structure my day to ensure optimal health and performance. I think I should make sure to exercise every day and also eating good food and supplements, as well as cutting out the excessive alcohol binges I seem to have 3-4 times a month. It will be interesting too see how things turn out.

Thirdly, and also high on my list of priorities is to complete the online modules of my TEFL course. I have finished the practical certificate, which is enough to get my foot into the door of many teaching jobs in Thailand, but I honestly can’t say with any confidence that I would be a good teacher with only this single certificate. So, completing the further 9 online modules will serve the twofold benefit of bringing my skills to a higher level thus increase the quality of job offers I will receive, while at the same time increase my own confidence in my ability to go out there and actually teach. I think I can say with reasonable assurance that I can finish all of these online modules with 1 hour every day working through the course.

Finally, I have some books to read before I head off. Most importantly I want to read both volumes of Baluga’s book, along with the much talked about follow up to PNLv1, SSNLHE. Considering these are only a combination of <500 pages in total, I think 10-20 pages most days will be more than enough to finish off all these books in good time, while not rushing through and missing out on all of the information they have inside.

Also have some IRL books to read, like Fooled by Randomness (FBR), Outliers, The Tipping Point, The Inner Game of Tennis and Sway, but if i don’t finish all of these I can happily take them to Thailand with me.

So, it starts tomorrow. I will post every day at the end of the day, or at some point earlier in the day if I know I will be out drinking or away for some reason or another and keep this updated with whats been happening. I’m going to have a bath now, read some more FBR, then write out my letter of notice for leaving work, and hit bed, then when I wake up, drink some water, eat something healthy, go for a run then have a good shower and begin day 1 of 56 days til freedom.

See you tomorrow.
