What I learned from Coaching Kristy by BalugaWhale

  • Why are you betting? For Value or as a Bluff
  • When for value? With hands ahead of range.
  • When as a Bluff? With Fold Equity and Pot Equity
  • What is Fold equity? Fold equity is a combination of factors which combine to make it more likely villain will fold a better hand.
  • What are those factors? When we are deep. How many players are in the pot - the less the better. Types of players, the tighter the better. Board texture.
  • Pot equity? When we have a large number of outs vs villains calling range or we have the best hand vs villains range.
  • Think about villains player type. Is he Aggro-bad, aggro-good, looose-passive?
  • The more pot equity you have the few hands you need to make villain fold
  • The more more fold equity you have the more hands you can raise
  • Look out for spots where you can create passive-deadmoney from passive fish and aggro-deadmoney from aggro fish.. (dead money = money you lose after putting money in pot when you would simply fold to a raise)
  • decision making IP = monies
  • times to slow play: Dry board, Hard to be outdrawn, many cards can come to improve villains range and we can still be way ahead, we don't need to build a pot because it's already big
  • dont let emotions influence you in your decisions
  • know when to quit before the beginning of your own disaterous landslides
  • estimation is your friend, feeling out your opponents
  • discipline is so important. have a read - stay disciplined on your read
  • dont react to 3bets light just because youve been 3bet alot recently, dont stack off light for 3-4bb's invested- wait for a moment to react appropriately
  • become aware of people who seem to be taking advantage of you - but wait for some solid evidence before you decide to hit back.. a solid hand, or preferably someone else going to showdown with them.
  • View the HH's in the HEM quick last hand history display and make notes on useable information.. ie. bluffs missed draw, calls when board pairs ligher etc
  • think about who we are going to be playing against before we decide to 3bet; is the pot going to be likely to be multiway? does our hand play better multiway or HU?
  • to get good at poker, write about it, think about it! Thats why its best to take notes on videos :)
  • challenge your coach to come up with great answers to your questions
  • there is no need to collect dead money from a guy who is never folding, because there is by definition no "dead money" to be won!
  • OOP devalue strength of your hand ALOT
  • if someone is 3betting u with a polarized range, start to call OOP with really strong hands
  • remember dont attribute all the action you are getting to one guy, the table is not one entity, its you vs 5 individuals
  • its better to err to the 'value' side of "unbalanced"
  • when they call the flop, what do they have? A hand. What do people not like to fold? A hand.
  • pot equity + fold equity = monies in pot
  • they start adjusting = i need to start adjusting
  • c/r bluff with hands that have equity
  • don't force your opponent to play perfectly
  • what are we trying to fight for? The fishes money - thus dont get into battles light vs regs, just play to get the fish, iso them and take their monies
  • keep your ego out of poker. let the others get their ego out of line and take advantage of that, dont be the donkdrooler with "something to prove"
  • game dynamics - adjust to general trends you see accross the whole number of tables. Be able to adjust to the situations and react in the most +EV manner
  • There is no such thing as "style". There is a "right move" all the time. You should be trying to make the single "right move" not play your self-imposed "style"
  • winning "the pot" doesnt matter, immediate results are irrelevant, dont worry about battling to take down unwinnable pots, the only thing that matters is winning money in the long term through making the "right move" when it matters, that is all that really counts.
  • 4betting: don't adjust until you see a ONE player 4 bet several times, not just because you are getting 4bet by DIFFERENT players several times. Adjustments: Don't stop 3betting until you see someone 4betting against you more than they call.
  •  3betting early - create image, table dynamics.
  • Dont get affected by the actions of what happens against one player, don't change your whole game based on what happens vs one player. its important to adjust to one individual, not adjust vs the whole table.
  • anytime you change your betsize from big>little or Little>big it confuses people, it doesnt make sense to many people, and as a consequence its a great way to get value
  • defending 3bets: big cards are your best bet.
  • 100bbs 3bet pots, calling with big cards are better because you can stack off with TPGK on more flops as SPR is small. Deep 3bet pots (175bb+), you can add more suited connectors are the SPR is high. Continuing on this theme, Deep you can 4 bet hands like big cards because the SPR will be lower when deep.
  • best time to 3barrel: when oppenent has some equity on the turn and they don't realize it on the river ie when all the draws missed
  • don't get phomo - 'fear of missing out' - the games will not die! they'll be around forever, just play when you are in top form and ready to attack the tables.. the action is there 24/7
  • shove thresold - certain lowness of stack players will be more willing to shove. be aware of betting into these players because you dont want to have to bet fold good hands..
  • moving up gets easier with time, you are paying money for a learning experience to become comfortable playing newer limits, because you need to be comfortable risking money to play good profitable poker
  • deduction is a great way to analyize your poker hands reviewing in HEM
  • make notes on people after hands when the call/fold in 3bet pots. If they fold KJT boards for example, then you know he will be 3betting light
  • Go through a process of thinking WHAT DOES HE HAVE? on every street
  • To move up a limit every 125k hands means you are doing super awesome

That's an awesome list! Alot of these are just engrained into people's minds, but I do the exact same thing -- I have a word document open always with my 'thoughts' and it is nice to see I share many with you and baluga!
