I always leave a few of my hands from the previous day to go over just before I start my new session the day after. It doesnt have to be more than a few, the important part is to be very detailed, and to start thinking/activating that part of your brain so that you DONT have to do it when you are at the tables (HIGHER chance of making an mistake, and at that point.. its costing you money!). Remember.. When you are at the start session, your mind is going to try and find every shortcut, to do as little work as possible, be ready and push through it! For example, in this hand right below Hero (BTN/SB): $620.00 BB: $1248.30 Pre Flop: ($6.00) Hero is BTN/SB with 7s Js Hero raises to $8, BB calls $4 Flop: ($16.00) 2c 7d 5c (2 players) BB bets $12.00, Hero raises to $40, BB calls $28 Short info: He called 35% oop (3b 15%), and i have seen that he leads out with 96ss on a T34ss board with the same 12$ into 16$ pot (20% over 255 hands). So i decided to raise, since i figured i would be ahead very very often based on my reads and what i have seen. Turn: ($96.00) 6s (2 players) BB checks, Hero bets $81.00, BB calls $81 not the greatest card, 34s,48s,89 now gets there. River: ($258.00) Jc (2 players) Another really bad card.. Now what can i get value from here? Obviously a terrible runout vs his drawing range since "everything", gets there.. What is everything. What gets there? Is there anything that doesnt get there? What if he had 100% calling range instead we have to think of the 34o combos aswell? What if you played against someone that donked more top-pair/medium pair type hands.. Well if he had more TP/MP in his range, then you are propably not getting called down that light on this exact runout, so what would you have done then? just ask yourself all of this questions. If you break down ONE hand in this way before you start your session. Combine this with a few good "motivational" quotes that i have written down in a text document that i review before the start of my sessions. " Accepting that suffering is going to happen, and understanding that accepting that suffering ultimately leads to success, is the key to persistence, is the key to ultimate success When you expect nothing, then suddenly you will get everything. One thing I would suggest considering is implementing the goals over time rather than all at once. If you try to completely overhaul everything at once it is possible to keep everything going for a few weeks or a month, but one day you wake up after a late night out with friends and you have to work on your company, put in 2,000 hands and an hour of study, read three books, go to the gym for an hour and cook a new recipe and it can be easy to say, "Meh, fuck it." and all the spinning plates come crashing down. Human willpower is notoriously finite (http://lifehacker.com/5662132/youve-got-a-limited-supply-of-willpower-so-use-it-wisely) and for some people it's more effective to focus on one goal, say, every day for a month until it becomes a fully integrated personal habit, and then add another goal, one at a time, rinse and repeat.
